We Are Witnessing the First Stages of a Trump Police State

What Happened?


On Friday, federal agents from ICE, DHS, the FBI, and the DEA conducted raids in Los Angeles targeting suspected undocumented workers. Over 120 people were arrested. Protesters responded, and authorities used riot control gear, rubber bullets, and teargas to disperse them.


By Saturday, Trump had ordered 2,000 national guard troops into LA County, calling interference with ICE operations a form of “rebellion.” His deputy chief of staff, Stephen Miller, labeled the protests an “insurrection.”


Escalation & Threats


Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth warned that active-duty marines might be deployed. He claimed that protestors are aiding criminal cartels and undermining national security.



Five Steps Toward Authoritarian Rule:


Robert Reich identifies a pattern:


1. Declaring a national emergency using fear-based terms.



2. Deploying armed federal forces domestically.



3. Enabling warrantless arrests and indefinite detention.



4. Building expanded detention infrastructure.



5. Approaching martial law if unrest continues.

Reich warns that these tactics build a permanent police-state structure, threatening civil liberties across political lines.

Peaceful resistance is crucial. Reich urges participation in the “No Kings Day of Action” on Saturday, June 14, as a show of nonviolent opposition to authoritarianism.
